Founded and directed by Gabriel Hemingway, Vataguess begins with experimental music, live performance, generative systems, and rotating collaboration — with long-term ambitions across publishing, design, technology, events, and independent creative infrastructure.
Vataguess persists. Its configurations change.
Music may be composed, generated, dismantled, performed, recombined, or inherited from earlier work. Participants may change. Systems may participate. Methods may become material.
What remains is a continuing creative entity rather than a fixed lineup, genre, or procedure.
Current form
The present form is musical. This is the work underway rather than a catalogue — Vataguess is in formation, and says so.

Identity
Vataguess is not a fixed band, a genre, or an alternate name for one person's catalogue. It is a persistent creative entity whose structure is expected to change.
Gabriel Hemingway and Vataguess are related but not identical. Existing Gabriel Hemingway works do not become Vataguess works by association: a work belongs to Vataguess when it is deliberately adopted as such and coheres with the project's direction and history. Designation without coherence would be arbitrary branding.
Practice
Vataguess has tendencies rather than a genre.
Its vocabularies may run through experimental electronic music, ambient, noise, industrial, breakcore, chiptune, darkwave and elsewhere. None of these is a requirement, and the project stays free to make work that violates yesterday's formula. What recurs is not a sound but a set of behaviours: recombination, transformation, procedural variation, improvisation, and unusual relationships between people and machines.
Transformation
Material is treated as capable of continued becoming. A piece may be remixed, resampled, degraded, algorithmically mutated, fragmented, rebuilt live, or translated into another genre entirely. Earlier Gabriel Hemingway work may be transformed into new Vataguess realizations — reinterpretation rather than annexation.
Generative systems
Generative technology is a method, not an essence. The cycle matters more than the tooling:

Systems may act as compositional collaborators, transformation engines, live-response agents or structural assistants. Credit follows meaningful causal contribution, not theatrical anthropomorphism.
Work, system, realization
A work is not a system, and a system is not a realization. In many conventional recordings, the three may effectively collapse into a single object. For generative or live work, one system may produce many realizations — and each is a legitimate form rather than a variant of a truer original.
Configurations
A configuration is a concrete instance of Vataguess at one moment in time.

- How creative authority is allocated within the work.

Participation is graded rather than binary. Someone may hold real creative authority inside a project without acquiring direction over the entity, and may appear in one configuration and not the next.
Gabriel Hemingway founds and directs Vataguess and retains continuing responsibility for its identity and artistic direction. Configurations change beneath that continuity; the entity is what persists across them.
Vision
Its present form is musical. Its future is intentionally larger.

Label activity, objects, garments, publishing and events are intended directions rather than operating departments. They are recorded so the shape of the intent is legible, and they will exist when there is work to justify them.
