Vataguess is an experimental creative entity. Its present form is musical: experimental composition, live performance, generative systems, reinterpretation and rotating collaboration.

It is founded and directed by Gabriel Hemingway, who retains continuing responsibility for its identity and artistic direction. Creative agency can be distributed widely within an individual project.

Gabriel Hemingway and Vataguess are related but not identical identities. Existing Gabriel Hemingway works do not automatically become Vataguess works, though Vataguess may reinterpret or transform that material into new realizations of its own.

Genre is variable and methods are open. Generativity and machine collaboration are important methods rather than defining features — they are used where they serve the work, not as an identity. The same is true of any particular instrument, format or medium.

Vataguess is designed to survive changing configurations of people, technologies, methods and media. It reserves the right to mutate.
